LITTLE MS CUTTHROAT VIDEO WINS DRAKE AWARD

The Annual Video Awards put on by The Drake Magazine were held a few weeks back down in Denver, and the music video we made with cinematographer-extraordinaire Justin Lubke of Story Road Films made the Top 10, and then was the winner for Best Humor.

FISHING MUSIC II, The Sweet Sound of The Reel...

Now that Fishing Music II has been released, Ben and I stole away to the Dillon area for some fishing. It turned out to be more than 'just fishing' and instead arguably the Best Day of Trout Fishing Ever. Private tiny spring creek, wild fish averaging a measured 19", all on hoppers, sight fishing. Wow is the most family-appropriate thing I can think to say.

FISHING MUSIC II RELEASED TODAY!

It's true, almost a year in the making, Fishing Music II is finally released today. Thanks to everyone was a part of making this happen, and we're looking forward to hearing from our listening audience once it starts getting out on the air (ear?) waves.

Now, it's time to head out for a little fishing...

CD Days Away!

After almost of year of work, we're mere days away from the release of Fishing Music II. It's going to be available for sale approximately July 6, it's looking like, but don't quote me since I don't have cd's in hand yet. We're very excited to hear what people will have to say when they hear it -- looking forward to that.

Of course in the mean time there's some good fishing to be done, so we'll be out on the water until the cd shows up on the doorstep in just a matter of days...

Waiting for the CD, Fishing the Big Hole

Since the Fishing Music II cd is in print production and due out July 1, Ben and I decided to take a little trip over to the Big Hole. We went with Justin Lubke, friend and cinematographer who shot the Little Miss Cutthroat video with us (also out July 1).

We timed it out well to hit the salmonflies, and caught some really nice fish, and all thanks to our brand newest lucky fishing hats, pictured here. You'll be able to buy these and other cool FMII schwag when the cd is available. Can't help you with the catching, but they make the fishing that much more enjoyable...

Master Complete, Packaging Into Production

After months of work, the mastering down at Airshow in Colorado is done, and the packaging being sent off to the production house. This means we are pretty much set to have the new cd in hand on July 1! I think in the end we're very pleased with the songs, and all the hard work paid off -- but we'll have to wait for our listening audience to confirm that. In the mean time, we're making sure to get our radio station and reviewers lists together, and be ready for when they land on our doorstep. Doesn't mean we aren't going to get a bit of fishing in -- the annual trip to the Big Hole around father's day isn't far off at all...

Runoff is On, Mastering is Next

Warm weather finally hit the Northern Rockies with a bang, and the runoff is in full swing. That's good news, because we need some non-fishable time to do the last tweaks before Ben heads down to Colorado for mastering with master masterer, David Glasser, at Airshow.

Fortunately David was able to get in a day on the Big Hole and Ruby rivers before they blew out, and the fishing was terrific. Thanks to the folks at Ruby Springs Lodge http://www.rubyspringslodge.com/ for a fabulous stay and guides Joe and Jake for putting up with our crew!

Based on where we are now, looking like end of June cd release date -- hard to believe it's almost here...

Spring Sprung, Tracks Almost Done

Well, spring has (sort of) finally showed up in the Northern Rockies after Bozeman experiencing record April snowfall (50"). The buds are scrambling to burst, and the caddis are starting to hatch on the Yellowstone.

We've been trying to nail down the last few tracks for Fishing Music II, and are close -- so close in fact that we have a date down at Airshow in Colorado for mastering. So we better get this nailed down.

We did get one day of fishing in, finishing off our music video for one of the FMII songs. That will appear on YouTube when the cd is out in a month or so. We floated the Snake down in Jackson WY on a beautiful day, but the fish were sulking in the high pressure, so to say it was slow would be an understatement. But things should start picking up soon -- both in terms of fishing and music. The photo here, taken by fishing and photographer pal Ben Pierce, was from last spring -- would be nice to repeat a few of those this year...

Okay, Like Still More Snow

And here it is mid April, and it's snowing yet again. I'll still stick with saying that snow means good summer water which means happy fish which means good fishing. But pretty soon the rivers might be getting a little too happy.

We were going to start mixing FMII down at Ben's studio this week, but put it off because we need to get some last footage for the music video we're doing, and need some at least decent weather for that.

But we're getting close. Rob Ickes, master of the dobro, is putting a last few touches on dobro tracks for some of the songs, then we'll be about there.

In between mixing, we may have to go check out the Henry's Fork or the South Fork of the Snake, just to be sure the fish are happy...

Snow = Good

Up here in the Northern Rockies, we're still seeing fairly regular snowfall, which is good for two reasons: the rivers will have better water for fishing this summer, and colder weather makes it easier to spend time in the studio working on Fishing Music II (http://www.fishingmusic.com/) and not wanting to be out fishing.

We've been finishing off a few of the tracks, and just sent a few to Rob Ickes, dobro-ist extraordinaire (http://www.robickes.com/) for his musical input. The song list is feeling strong, with a nice mix of feels and musicians. Hopefully we can have it out by June 1 or so, depending on how many times we're tempted to hit the river (or the flats) between now and then. Stay tuned...

Recording contnues, fishing research being done

While Ben and David work on finalizing tracks, starting into some mixes, and organizing the last musicians for the Fishing Music II project, David was out doing some important saltwater research. 3 days fishing out of Sugarloaf Key with guide and pal Justin Rea (http://www.stingreacharters.com he landed 2 permit and had another hooked. He was most definitely not singing the blues after that trip...
